Michael grew up in Billings and earned his Bachelor’s Degree (2004) at Montana State University – Billings. After graduation, he moved to Iowa City, Iowa, and earned his Juris Doctorate (2008), Master’s Degree (2012), and Ph.D (2015) from The University of Iowa, where he also taught freshman literature courses.
Michael returned home to Montana in 2015, where he always wanted to practice law. Prior to re-joining Brown Law Firm in 2023, Michael clerked for the Honorable Michael G. Moses of Montana’s Thirteenth Judicial District, and spent many years practicing civil litigation in Billings, including with the Edwards Law Firm. At Brown, Michael primarily practices in the area of civil defense litigation.
Outside of work, Michael stays active in the local legal community. In 2019 he joined the Board of Directors of the Yellowstone Area Bar Association, and served in that role until recently when he became President Elect of YABA. He has also provided pro bono legal services to indigent clients through the Yellowstone County Family Law Project.
When not finding himself in the letters of law and literature, Michael can be found spending time with his wonderful wife Janine. Together, they often join family and friends in the Beartooths, enjoying the singular geology of Montana’s mountains. He also enjoys appreciating and understanding the works of his favorite philosopher, Ludwig Wittgenstein, from new angles.
